Manufactured to proprietary melt criteria and formed by the Micro-Weld™ process for weld-seam integrity and industry-leading surface finishes — 20 μin Ra ID / 30 μin Ra OD. Hydrogen bright annealed, Eddy Current tested, and printed with heat number, date, and spec for full traceability.

04 — Materials & Finishes

Spec the right alloy and surface for the service.

The difference between a five-year and a twenty-year service life is almost always in the alloy selection and surface preparation. Here's what drives the call.

Alloys we stock

  • T304 / 304L Workhorse sanitary stainless. 18Cr / 8Ni. Food contact, dairy, brewing, water — where chlorides are low and cost matters.
  • T316L Default for sanitary service. Adds 2-3% Mo for chloride resistance. Specified for most new builds and all BPE applications.
  • 316L low-S MaxPure biopharm. Controlled sulfur 0.005 - 0.017% for repeatable automatic orbital welding. ASME-BPE required.
  • 904L Super-austenitic. ~4.5% Mo, higher Ni. PREN ~36. Upgrade from 316L where chloride-induced pitting is a problem.
  • 6Mo (N08367) MaxCore 6Mo. PREN ~46. Seawater, high-chloride process, pharma chloride cleans, aggressive CIP chemistries.
  • Alloy 22 (N06022) Nickel-base (Hastelloy C22® eq). For the most aggressive chemistries — mixed acids, hot chlorides, low-pH reactive services.

Surface finishes

  • No. 1 / SF0 Unpolished. Mill finish. Non-product-contact or jacketed service.
  • No. 3 ID polish only. 150-grit interior; mill OD. Internal cleanability without the OD cost.
  • No. 4 / 32 Ra Standard sanitary. ~32 μin Ra. Default 3-A finish for food & beverage.
  • No. 7 / 20 Ra Polished ID & OD. ~20 μin Ra. Wayland / RathGibson A270 tubing standard; most new sanitary builds.
  • MP (SF1) ASME-BPE Mechanically Polished. ≤20 μin Ra. Standard BPE product-contact surface.
  • EP (SF4) Electropolished. ≤15 μin Ra. Passive, ultra-smooth, chromium-enriched layer. Biopharm gold standard.
  • Passivation ASTM A967 / ASME-BPE. Acid treatment that restores the passive chromium-oxide layer. Standard on MaxPure and MaxCore.
